Electric-assisted bicycles (or e-bikes) have long been on the rise in the European market, and that is beginning to ramp up here in Australia. While there is widespread concern about the use of e-bikes off road, we don’t trouble ourselves with that debate. We use e-bikes where we believe they can make the biggest impact - as a quiet, efficient, easy-to-use form of transport.

Many people don’t cycle because of distance, ill health or just convenience - it’s not ideal to spend an hour on a hard slog of a commute only to get to work sweaty and exhausted. E-bikes allow those who otherwise could not commute on a bike to do exactly that and do it easier and faster than on an unassisted bike, while still requiring a reasonable (and variable) amount of effort to get you moving and keep you at speed.

The things we love about cycling - the efficiency, the ease of use, the increasingly good infrastructure and laws, and the straight-up-feeling’-good you get from being outside all apply here, the only thing that’s different is that you have to put out less power because an electric motor makes up the difference. Not to mention the sheer joy that comes from speeding along with incredible ease - every person who has taken one of our demo bikes for a spin has come back grinning from ear to ear, including us.

It’s not hard to imagine yourself riding around the city with that same grin every day, knowing that it only cost you ten cents to charge up this magical battery that feels like it’s doing all the work for you. With the built-in lights, riding at night is never a problem and the low centre of gravity that comes from a centre-mounted motor keeps you stable at any speed. Simply put, these bikes are fun!

We have demo stock on the shop floor from both Gazelle and Kalkhoff, the two leading brands in the European market - we’re more than happy for you to test ride one or both of them up and down our quiet little street, or get in touch with us to book a half-day test. Come in and talk to us about how an e-bike can get you back on the road and enjoying cycling!
